IN CHARACTER
Name: Cyclonus
Canon: Transformers: More Than Meets The Eye
Canon Point: Beginning of Issue #48 (Speak, Memory Part 1)
Age: Over 6 million years
History: This ridiculous canon
Personality:
Cyclonus seems every bit the archetypal stoic warrior. He says little, he fights well, and he doesn't deal with things like feelings.
To some degree he was probably always like this, having been religious since his youth as part of an order that has hints of being rather austere (they believe only essential body parts should be replaced, leading to Cyclonus refusing to have his broken horn fixed). However, he was also once a more relaxed, sociable, and optimistic individual.
Now Cyclonus is defined by loss: the loss of shining Cybertron in its Golden Age that he held dear; the loss of six million years of his life, trapped inside a universe actively hostile to life; the loss of his leader he served loyally for millions of years, who betrayed his trust and made him hurt the planet he loves most... He is a mech who has gone through much and lost everything and everyone he knew and loved, and as a result it has left him cold and distant, and disinclined to trust or make new personal connections.
Lately he is slowly beginning to open up again, both through the efforts of Tailgate - who befriended him through sheer force of will - and through his experiences with the crew of the Lost Light, building a sense of camaraderie with them.
Which doesn't exactly make him a social butterfly - his favorite activity is staring out windows - but he's more willing to talk to people casually and even relax a little on occasion.
He's also mellowed out and become a bit more peaceful since he was purged of the Dead Universe's influence. While he had a savage bloodlust just waiting to spill out while he was part of the Dead Universe, now he fights and kills as part of his duty. He even chose to let a vendetta go and move on with his life, despite having the perfect opportunity to end it lethally as initially planned.
He is still 110% absolutely horrible at dealing with having feelings towards other people. He has a) mutilated his face instead of admit out loud that he was upset Tailgate was sick, b) gone rage mode on an opponent and stabbed their eye out with his horn when they reminded him he was fighting for Tailgate, c) choked a guy and threatened to kill him for giving him a cold reading and letting everyone know he cared for Tailgate, d) saved Tailgate's life at least three times at heavy risk to his own - but still hasn't actually told him he cares, e) has only admitted out loud once that he cares - to the ship's hugest asshole in anticipation of being told that Tailgate's better off without him.
Good job, Cyclonus. You are the worst at this.
Somewhat ironically, given his inability to be straight and honest about his feelings, he highly prizes honesty, refusing to lie himself, and disapproving of it in others.
He appreciates people for their flaws rather than in spite of them. He has a musical side and enjoys singing (from old Cybertronian ballads to Earth pop songs). He has a dry sense of humor hidden under all that graveness.
Abilities/Skills:
Is a giant robot: this body comes with sharp pointy claws, sharp pointy horns, and chest rockets.
Transforms into a space jet: it flies in space, it flies on planets, it shoots rockets, and for some reason it has a cockpit that can fit Tailgate-sized people.
Cyclonus is also a bodyguard and skilled warrior, able to fight just as skillfully with projectile weapons, bladed weapons, and with just his own too hands.
Is a rather remarkable damage sponge. Just keep on ticking, Cyclonus.
Has a lovely singing voice (though his singing isn't always to everyone's taste).
Can project a holomatter avatar.
Strengths/Weaknesses:
Strengths:
Skilled warrior
Bodyguard instincts
Turns into a spacejet
Can take ridiculous amount of hits
Weaknesses:
Emotionally constipated
Face like a funeral
His fantastic interpersonal skills
Items:
A Great Sword
the horn Tailgate made for him, attached to his head
SAMPLES
Network Sample: Cyclonus has a talk
Prose/Action Sample:
There's not much room for Cyclonus to maneuver on the Moira. While he can make his way through the hallways, the cramped passages are rather claustrophobic - particularly for a flight frame - and between the undignified hunching and constantly having to watch where he puts his feet, it's not something he particularly enjoys doing. If he does make the trip, he generally only has two destinations: the airlock to leave the ship and stretch his wings, or the observation deck to participate in his favorite activity of staring broodily out into space.
Today, however, he doesn't feel like squeezing himself through a ship built for creatures far smaller than him. So instead he settles his body into a comfortable kneeling position within his room and sends his mind elsewhere.
Soon there is a tall dark-skinned woman prowling the halls, dressed not unlike a Victorian governess and looking every bit as stern as one would expect from such. Now, where is he to go today? He hears there is a training simulation room, which seems to use technology not unlike his own holomatter avatar, and he has yet to check it out. He might as well see what sort of combat training humans have to offer.
It may not be in his own body, but nor does exercise improve Cybertronian bodies as it tends to improve organic frames. And after all, the strongest weapon at any warrior's disposal is their mind. Let him give his mental projection a spin. Who knows when knowing to fight with it might come in handy?
He has people here to protect, after all.
